Elizaveta Likhacheva, Director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and art historian, spoke about the significance of the International Science Fiction Symposium “Inventing the Future.”

“The symposium is a place for shaping meanings. We need to understand how we will live moving forward, as a new configuration is emerging in which we will spend the next 100 years. Perhaps our time will be the inflexion point where the 22nd and even the 23rd centuries will be formulated,” Elizaveta Likhacheva says.

During the International Symposium “Inventing the Future,” Elizaveta Likhacheva, along with representatives from other cultural institutions, will discuss how museums will engage with audiences in the future.

“The museum is one of the future-oriented institutions, defining and shaping civilization by fostering culturally aware individuals who understand and acknowledge being part of it. The future does not grow out of nothing, it grows out of something. The museum of the future is a place where both objects and visitors feel at ease,” believes the art expert.

The International Science Fiction Symposium “Inventing the Future” will take place from November 4 to 6 and will be the inaugural event of the Russia National Centre, established by the Russian President’s directive.

The symposium will bring together scientists and researchers, futurists and forecasters, science fiction writers, and government officials. The topics they will explore include the impact of artificial intelligence proliferation, the future of digital governance, the role of traditional values amid technological progress, and the timeline for humanity’s exploration of other planets.

Alongside the symposium, the Russia National Centre will host the exhibition “Heritage for the Future,” featuring works by young artists – graduates of creative universities from various countries. Through the artistic expressions of the youth, the exhibition will explore the topics “Building on the Past. Thinking about the Future.”
