They Envisioned the Future: Which Science Fiction Writers Will Participate in the Symposium

The International Symposium “Inventing the Future,” to be held from November 4-6 at the Russia National Centre, will feature prominent science fiction writers alongside government officials, distinguished scientists, researchers, futurists, and forecasters. Here’s a look at who will be the guests of honor, moderators, and experts at the Symposium’s events.
Science fiction writer Sergei Lukyanenko, the creator of a unique literary universe found in the “Watch” series of novels, as well as fantastic worlds in the books “Spectrum,” “The Genome,” “Labyrinth of Reflections,” “Foresight,” “In Search of a Lost Tomorrow,” and other works, has received numerous awards, including the Aelita (1999), EuroCon (2003), Corine (2007), and others. His books have been translated into over 30 languages. A multiple-time recipient of the Stranger Award in various categories, Sergei Lukyanenko has been invited to the Symposium as an expert and will also moderate one of the discussions.
Another participant is Aleksei Yevtushenko, a member of the Union of Russian Writers, Soviet and Russian poet, and science fiction writer. He is the author of the poetry collections “Deliverance,” “The Third Firmament,” and “Time of Life,” as well as the popular novels “Squad,” “Under the Wheels there are Stars,” and “Stranger from Nowhere,” among others. Yevtushenko, who is also an architect and urban planner by education, will speak at the Symposium about the development of small towns of the future.
Writer Mikhail Savelichev, known for his work in the genres of science fiction, social fiction, alternative history, and magical realism, will also take part in the Symposium. His notable works include “The Cry of Those Born Tomorrow,” “Love the Stranger,” “The Black Queen,” “The Red Cosmos,” and “I Am the Bratsk HPP.” A laureate of awards such as the “Big Zilant,” the magazine “Noon: 21st Century,” and “Ayu-Dag Constellation,” Savelichev is also a candidate of economic sciences and a researcher at the Center for Advanced Economic Research of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. At the Symposium, Mikhail Savelichev will participate in the “Foresight of Worlds and Times” event and a discussion on the topic of “Currency of the Future.”
On July 1, 2024, President Vladimir Putin signed an order establishing the Russia National Centre to preserve the legacy of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” and to showcase the country’s achievements on a permanent basis.
The
International Symposium “Inventing the Future” will be held on November 4-6 at
the Russia National Centre. Alongside the symposium, the exhibition “Heritage
for the Future” will commence, featuring works by young artists, graduates of
creative universities from various countries. The exhibition promotes the idea
of a dialog about the future of the human-centered world.
