VCIOM to Co-Organize the International Science Fiction Symposium “Inventing the Future”

International Science Fiction Symposium “Inventing the Future”, the inaugural event of the Russia National Centre, will feature an expert roundtable titled “Studying the Future,” co-organized by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM).
Participants will discuss the evolving role of research, methods to forecast the future in politics, economics, culture, demography, and other fields, the tools that may emerge soon, and the role artificial intelligence could play in this process. The roundtable will be moderated by VCIOM General Director Valery Fyodorov.
“We are facing a new challenge: understanding not only how we will study a changing society but also which tools will help us forecast and design that future. The Symposium’s important mission is to identify the trends and directions society is heading toward, how people’s values are shifting, and the transformations awaiting various aspects of our lives. At the roundtable, we will discuss with experts the specific changes the research world can expect,” Valery Fyodorov shares.
The event will feature speakers from various fields, including sociology, futurology, politics, international relations, science and technology, economics, demography, and culture. They will share their experiences, discuss challenges, and explore research methods for studying the future at the intersection of two eras.
Key topics for discussion include the connection between studies of the past and present with future research, essential aspects of creating shared “visions of the future” and a new dialogue between cultures and civilizations, and effective methods and tools for studying and forecasting the future. Eight VCIOM experts will deliver presentations at the Symposium.
On July 1, 2024, President Vladimir Putin signed an order establishing the Russia National Centre to preserve the legacy of the “Russia” Exhibition and to showcase the country’s achievements on a permanent basis.
The International Science-Fiction Symposium
“Inventing the Future” will be held on November 4-6 at the Russia National
Centre. The Symposium participants will include scientists and researchers,
futurists and forecasters, science fiction writers, and government
representatives. Alongside the symposium, the Russia National Centre will host
