Looking to the Future: Renowned Science Fiction Writers at the First Event of the Russia National Centre

The International Symposium “Inventing the Future,” to be held from November 4-6 at the Russia National Centre, will feature prominent science fiction writers. The authors will present their vision of the future and discuss ethical and philosophical questions associated with technological progress and its impact on the society. We continue to introduce the Symposium’s honorary guests, moderators, and experts.
Russian writer Vadim Panov, author of the future-focused books and the futurological study “Simulator of Madness,” and a two-time winner of the “Science Fiction Writer of the Year” award, will speak in several Symposium sessions. In particular, the author will talk about how science fiction writers rely on scientific achievements and societal trends to create visions of the future, which sometimes turn into reality.
Science fiction writer Eldar Safin will participate in the session “AI: What Happens Tomorrow?” The author of works like Echo of Time’s Small Change, Volkov Blues, and the collaborative collection Dance with the Mirror with Marina Drobkova, Safin will explore the integration of neural networks into daily life, as well as the competition between ecosystems and its potential outcomes.
Anton Karelin – a Russian writer, game author and developer – whose books have a cumulative circulation of approximately half a million, spanning fantasy, detective stories, and books about gaming, will also join. He is the author of numerous articles and reviews on cinema, literature, computer and tabletop games and a two-time winner of the RosCon Award. As an expert at the Symposium, Karelin will discuss content of the future and explain how technology will shape its creation, consumption, and distribution.
Other participants include science fiction writer Sergey Lukyanenko, member of the Russian Writers’ Union, Soviet and Russian poet and science fiction author Alexey Evtushenko, and science fiction writer Mikhail Savelichev.
One of the main objectives of the Symposium is to rekindle public interest in designing the future. Science fiction writers play a crucial role in this process, as they can visualize potential scenarios of technological development and its impact on human life. Their work inspires scientists, business leaders, and policymakers with new ideas and approaches, building a bridge between science fiction and real-world innovations. At the Symposium, these writers will share their unique visions, highlighting the importance of creativity in shaping the future.
