At the "Inventing the Future" Symposium, Experts from Around the World Will Discuss What Food Will Be Like in a Hundred Years

As part of the International Science Fiction Symposium "Inventing the Future", experts from different countries will participate in the roundtable discussion “Food Security and Food of the Future.” Participants will explore whether humanity may face hunger in a hundred years and how climate change might impact food availability.

One of the keynote speakers, John Aggrey, Director of Ghana’s Centre for Trade and Relations, noted that in the context of population growth and a changing climate, agriculture faces challenges that require innovative solutions.

“The dynamics of agricultural production and consumption are evolving. Therefore, implementing artificial intelligence, regenerative methods, precision and vertical farming, digital solutions for soil fertility enhancement, and irrigation technology holds long-term potential. These measures are essential to increasing food accessibility and preventing global hunger in the future,” the expert emphasizes.

Elvira Dovletyarova, Director of the Agrarian Technology Institute at RUDN University, believes that in a hundred years, given resource constraints, both food availability and quality will be critical factors for human health.

“We will discuss how to derive all essential nutrients and health-promoting elements from food. Expanding resources and advancing agricultural fields such as agrobiotechnology, agricultural engineering, and digital breeding will help address not only hunger but also enhance the quality of food,” Elvira Dovletyarova explains.

In her view, recognizing these challenges and developing strategic solutions is essential in a rapidly changing world. The Symposium will provide a platform for shaping these strategies, and Dovletyarova highlights the importance of having specialists from various countries contribute to the discussion.

On July 1, 2024, President Vladimir Putin signed an order establishing the Russia National Centre to preserve the legacy of the “Russia” Exhibition and to showcase the country’s achievements on a permanent basis.

The International Symposium “Inventing the Future” will be held on November 4-6 at the Russia National Centre. The Symposium participants will include scientists and researchers, futurists and forecasters, science fiction writers, and government representatives.

The opening of the Symposium will coincide with the launch of an exhibition supporting the idea of a dialog on the future of the human-centered world. The exhibition will allow each visitor to realize the importance of personal contribution to the future and inspire a desire to be part of its creation.
